Open Studios 36 Lime Street

It’s that time of year again when 36 Lime Street throws open its doors!

I’ll be showcasing a print I editioned for the Building Bridges group based at the Hatton Gallery Learning Space. Made up of a series of 9 copper plates designed by individual members of the group, the print is part  of an exchange between Newcastle University and Universidad de Guadalajara, Mexico.
‘Serenity’ brings together 9 original copper plates that were previously editioned  raising money for Pakistan Emergency Floods Appeal.  The fundraising continues as living conditions for many people continue to decline.

This years Open Studios will be offering ‘Serenity’ for sale at a special Open Studios price £50! If you can’t make Open Studios, you can pick up a copy HERE.

Included in the exhibition at the XL Gallery, Fine Art Dept, Newcastle University until 24 March is an etching I designed for the Mexican print exchange.

‘Ornament’ references the decorative metal type borders used in letterpress printing. The etching is printed in layes of transparent blue and embodies letters and typeface, abstracted and reconfigured incorporating layers of relief printing.

2023 has seen weeks of strike action taken by lots of different workers from posties to driving test instructors. I designed a mini-placard lino print to use on one of the many UCU picket lines, now editioned in different colours, raising financial support for the strike fund. You can pick up an original linoprint for £2 or take away a screenprinted poster for £5.

Open Studios is a great opportunity to pop in to different studios and have a go!

This year visitors, old and young can decorate a mini-bird box.
